A baby pelham has short shanks. A pelham strap can be used to connect the two rings, so just one rein is needed. The effect is a bit softer than riding with two reins. The pelham is used in combination with a curb chain. The pelham is often used with strong horses. Due to the leverage effect created by the sides, the bit is pretty sharp. By using this bit it’s easier to ride a horse rounder in the neck. The longer the sides, the sharper it is.

Braddon bits are a simple piece that act in a similar manner to a Snaffle bit. Bradoons are generally used in conjunction with a curb bit. A bradoon can be used on its own - it has the effect of a snaffle bit. However is made a little smaller to allow it be used alongside a Weymouth.

A three-ring bit, is a loose ring bit with 2 other rings, one upper and one lower. You attach the cheekpiece to the upper ring; then you can attach the rein to the big snaffle ring (the one that's connected to the mouthpiece) for minimal effect or the third  ring for maximum effect. This gives more leverage for the rider.

The Weymouth bit is always used together with a Bradoon bit. This is a combination of two bits that are used in the higher classes, mainly dressage. The Weymouth is always used in combination with a curb  chain. The rings of the Bradoon are smaller than normal, so there is  enough room left for the leverage functioning of the Weymouth. For the Weymouth and Bradoon a special bridle is required or extra cheekpieces.

This combination of the two bits is used to get the head and neck of the horse in the required position. A Weymouth combination should only be used by very experienced riders and a horse that is well trained and can tolerate some pressure.
