Pelham Sweet Iron Bits
A pelham has long shanks. A pelham strap can be used to connect the two rings, so just one rein is needed. The effect is a bit softer than riding with two reins. The pelham is used in combination with a curb chain. The pelham is often used with strong horses. Due to the leverage effect created by the sides, the bit is pretty sharp. By using this bit it’s easier to ride a horse rounder in the neck. The longer the sides, the sharper it is.
Sweet Iron - will rust when in contact with humidity (air). The surface rust tastes sweet and naturally simulates the salvation production. This will cause the hors to salivate more which will encourage the horse to take more contact.
The process of rusting (oxidisation) changes the blue colour of the Trust bit to a brownish - grey. A sweet iron bit will develop an orange-brow rust layer on the mouthpiece if it is temporarily not used. This is easily removed by wiping it off with a damp cloth.
