Frequently Asked Questions

What calmer supplements do you stock?

We carry the TRM calmer range: TRM Good As Gold Paste and TRM Good As Gold & Magnesium. Both are based on TRM's Irish formulation work for nervous and excitable horses. The Magnesium-combined version adds the calming mineral magnesium to the standard formula.

When should I use a calmer for my horse?

A calmer suits a horse that's genuinely nervous or excitable in specific situations (travel, competition, new environments, return to work after time off) where the underlying behaviour isn't a training issue. Don't use calmers as a substitute for training, riding skill or appropriate exercise; for sustained behavioural issues, get a vet check first to rule out clinical causes.

Are calmers competition-legal?

TRM Good As Gold paste is formulated with FEI competition rules in mind. Always check the label and the FEI Clean Sport database for the specific product and your discipline before competing. Some ingredients in calmer products are restricted in different disciplines.

How long does a calmer take to work?

TRM Good As Gold Paste is fast-acting - typical onset is within 30-60 minutes of administration. The Good As Gold & Magnesium version has both fast and longer-acting components. For event-specific calming, dose ahead of the trigger event according to the label.

Which calmer brands do you carry?

TRM is our anchor calmer brand. For other calmer products including Plusvital Chillax (in the equine supplements parent collection), contact us if you'd like a different formulation.

Can calmers be used long-term?

The TRM Good As Gold paste and combined formulations are designed for short-term, event-based use rather than continuous daily feeding. For longer-term temperament support, a magnesium-based feed-additive supplement is usually a more appropriate approach - contact us and we'll point you at suitable options.
