About Kentucky protective boots
Kentucky Horsewear designs tendon, fetlock and overreach boots that balance shock absorption with a light, close feel—using animal-friendly materials, breathable liners and clean, ring-ready styling.
Front tendon boots
Open-front fronts protect the back of the foreleg from strikes while keeping the front lighter for careful jumping. Anatomical shells and soft liners help the boot sit quietly through turns, combinations and related distances.
Hind fetlock boots
Compact fetlock boots guard against brushing and overreach without bulk. Even pressure and tidy strap geometry keep them centred and stable from warm-up to jump-off.
Overreach (bell) boots
Durable overreach boots shield the heel bulbs during take-off and landing. Low-profile designs reduce spinning, with soft edges to minimise rubs during schooling and competition.
Materials & liners
Hard-wearing outer shells pair with breathable foams or faux-sheepskin liners (by model) for comfort and quick dry-down. Ventilation ports and flexible zones support airflow and free movement.
Fit & sizing
Measure around the widest part of the cannon bone and check leg height. Boots should be snug with no gaps; you should slide two fingers under the strap. Fronts sit just below the knee; hinds cradle the fetlock.
Care & maintenance
Brush off sand, rinse and air-dry away from heat. Many models are machine-washable at 30 °C—close fastenings first and avoid fabric softener. Inspect stitching, elastic and closures regularly.
