Stirrup Leathers

We carry CWD and Butet stirrup leathers, plus Acavallo's REL-X stirrup irons (filed in this collection because of the stirrup-and-leather pairing). CWD covers Nylon-Lined and So Jump patterns plus the Mademoiselle line. Butet covers the Standard Lined pattern across current and outlet stock.

The CWD and Butet stirrup leathers we stock have a nylon or fabric core inside the leather to prevent stretching - this keeps your stirrup length consistent over time, which matters because uneven stretch creates uneven leg length. Plain leather without a core stretches with use and the holes pull wider; rotation (swapping left and right) helps but doesn't eliminate the issue. For everyday work, choose stretch-resistant.

A common adult length is 145cm; taller riders use 150cm or 155cm. Shorter riders often use 130cm or 140cm. To find your length, fit your saddle and stirrups, mount, and adjust the stirrup to your preferred length - then measure between buckle and stirrup punch hole and add about 30cm of room either side for adjustment.

A stretch-resistant stirrup leather typically lasts 3-5 years of regular use before replacement is needed. Replacement is driven by leather condition (cracking, surface wear) or hole stretching. If the buckle hole is starting to elongate, replace immediately - a leather that fails mid-ride is dangerous.

Wipe down after each ride. Clean weekly with a mild saddle soap and condition sparingly. Rotate the leathers (swap left and right) every few weeks to spread wear evenly across both straps. Inspect the buckle holes regularly for stretching, and replace before the holes start to elongate.

Monoflap saddles typically use specific monoflap leathers that mount on top of the saddle rather than inside the flap. Tell us your saddle model and we'll confirm whether you need a monoflap-specific leather or if your current pair is compatible.
