About our dog leads

Our Kentucky Dogwear leads combine animal-friendly materials with soft-touch grips and secure hardware—smart everyday designs that look tidy on walks, at the yard and on the go.

Styles we stock

Choose from everyday clip leads, reflective options for low light, plush-textured or leather-look finishes for a refined set, and multi-position training leads for hands-free or two-point control.

Comfort & control

Soft linings and rounded edges keep the handle comfortable, while well-placed D-rings and sturdy clips provide confident control without bulk.

Hardware & safety

Corrosion-resistant clips and reinforced stitch points are designed for daily use. Always check the clip closes fully and attach to a collar or harness D-ring that isn’t crowded by tags.

Lengths & adjustability

Shorter leads give close control in busy areas; longer or multi-position designs offer extra room on open paths. Pick width for your preferred hand feel and your dog’s size.

Care

Wipe down after muddy walks; many textile leads are machine-washable on a cool cycle. Air-dry and avoid heat to protect padding, stitching and finishes.

Explore everyday, reflective, plush-textured, leather-look and training leads—easy-care choices to match your dog’s collar and your routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What dog leads do you stock?

We carry the Kentucky Dogwear lead range in materials matching the collar finishes (plaited nylon, wool, velvet, velvet leather, leather pearl, jacquard, pied-de-poule, corduroy, reflective), in standard and longer (2m) lengths. We also stock the Kentucky Body Safe Wool Harness and the Kentucky Pooh Bag holder for active dog walking.

How long should a dog lead be?

For everyday town walking, a 1.2m-1.4m lead gives good control without being too short for the dog to walk comfortably alongside. For more relaxed walking and longer line work, a 2m lead gives the dog more room. The Kentucky range covers both standard and 2m options across most materials.

What is the difference between leather, rope and biothane dog leads?

Leather dog leads (Kentucky velvet leather) are the traditional choice - durable, smart, and what you'd choose for show or formal use. Rope and plaited nylon leads are the everyday standard - hard-wearing, machine-washable, and built for active dogs. Wool and decorative finishes (pearls, jacquard) lean towards everyday or smart-casual use rather than rugged outdoor work. We don't currently stock biothane leads; contact us if you'd like to source one.

Do you stock training and long-line dog leads?

The 2m versions of the Kentucky leads work as longer training leads. For dedicated training long-lines (5m+), contact us and we can source on request.

Are the clips strong enough for large dogs?

Yes. The Kentucky lead clips are sized appropriately for the lead pattern - the plaited nylon and leather chain leads use heavier clips suitable for larger dogs. Always inspect clips regularly for wear and replace any lead with a damaged clip immediately.

Which dog leads suit an active or working dog?

Plaited nylon and reflective lines are the everyday default for active dogs. The Body Safe Wool Harness pairs well with a sturdy lead for working dog use. Avoid the decorative pearl, fake fur and fancy velvet leads for genuinely active or working contexts - they're built for smart everyday wear, not rugged outdoor work.
