Choosing the right bridle

A well-fitted bridle keeps your horse comfortable and responsive. Start with noseband style - a crank noseband gives even pressure for horses that fuss in the mouth, a figure-8 keeps the jaw stable over fences, and a raised cavesson suits most flatwork and jumping. From there, consider headpiece design: anatomic cuts relieve poll pressure, while padded or shaped browbands reduce pinching around the ears.

Our bridle brands

We stock bridles from four leading makers. CWD bridles are handcrafted in France with calfskin and grain leather options built for close contact. Butet bridles use flat-stitched, vegetable-tanned leather designed for a clean, traditional look. Dyon bridles combine anatomic design with quality leather at an accessible price point. Trust Equestrian rounds out the range with innovative nosebands engineered around bit comfort.

Noseband styles explained

The noseband you choose affects both fit and function. A flash noseband adds a lower strap to keep the mouth closed without excessive pressure - a popular all-round choice. A grackle (figure-8) noseband crosses at the nose to prevent jaw-crossing, often favoured for show jumping and cross-country. A drop noseband sits below the bit for direct action on the lower jaw. If your horse goes well in a simple cavesson, a plain raised or padded noseband keeps things clean and comfortable.

Leather and fit

All bridles in our range are made from European leather - calfskin for a soft hand and instant grip, or saddlery-grade cowhide for durability. Sizing typically runs cob and full, with some models available in pony and oversize. If you need help choosing the right size or style, get in touch and we'll guide you through the options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What bridle brands do you stock?

We carry CWD, Butet, Dyon and Trust Equestrian bridles. CWD anchors the range with anatomic, FlexMotion and rider edition bridles. Dyon contributes its anatomic-led Working and New English collections. Butet covers combined, figure-8 and drop noseband sports patterns. Trust Equestrian adds hackamore and training options.

How do I choose the right noseband for my horse?

A flash noseband suits most general riding. A figure-8 (grackle) helps horses that cross their jaw over fences. A plain cavesson or drop noseband works well for flatwork. A combined noseband is a sports-style hybrid. Anatomic patterns (CWD Anatomic, Dyon Anatomic Flash, Dyon X-Fit) place crossed throat pieces, padded poll relief and ear cut-outs ahead of traditional aesthetics, and suit horses sensitive around the poll or ears. Tell us your discipline and what you're working with and we'll shortlist.

What size bridle does my horse need?

Most bridles come in cob and full, with some models offering pony and oversize. Cob generally fits 14.2-15.2hh horses; full fits 15.2hh and above. CWD, Dyon and Butet have brand-specific charts where the same nominal size differs slightly between brands. If your horse falls between sizes or has an unusual head shape, contact us before ordering and we'll advise.

How should I care for a leather bridle?

Wipe down with a damp cloth after each ride. Clean weekly with a mild saddle soap and condition sparingly with a quality leather balm - we stock the CWD and Butet Akene care ranges, both safe for the leathers used in those brands' bridles. Avoid heavy oiling and direct sunlight; store unbuckled on a bridle rack in a cool, dry place.

Can I order replacement parts for my bridle?

Yes. CWD, Butet and Dyon all offer individual components - browbands, nosebands, reins, headpieces and cheekpieces - so you can replace a worn part without buying a full bridle. Tell us your bridle model and the part you need and we'll source the right piece direct from the brand.

Do you sell anatomic bridles for sensitive horses?

Yes. The CWD Anatomic and FlexMotion lines, the Dyon Anatomic and Working/New English collections, and the Dyon Difference Bridle are all designed around horse anatomy with crossed throat pieces, pressure relief at the poll, and ear cut-outs. These are usually the right starting point for any horse that's tightening through the poll, throat or ears in a traditional bridle.
