Horse Blanket

Kentucky blankets fill most of this page. The Horse Duvet 300G anchors the heavyweight end, the Rain Coat is 100 percent waterproof for wet turnout, and the Show Rug covers ringside. Around them sit an Equijump stable sheet, a Kentucky horse bib to stop blanket rubs, and a tailguard for shipping. What Irish riders call rugs, you call blankets; either way, duty is prepaid at checkout and DHL delivers with nothing owed.

Which weight does your horse need?

The range runs from unlined sheets to the Kentucky Horse Duvet 300G. Clipped horses in a cold snap take the heavyweight; most unclipped horses in the mid-Atlantic or the South winter well in lighter layers. For wet climates, the Kentucky Rain Coat is fully waterproof and works as a top layer over a stable blanket. Layering two lighter blankets beats one heavy one when your weather swings, which most American winters do.

The pieces around the blanket

A blanket wardrobe is more than turnouts. The Kentucky Horse Bib sits under the chest and shoulder to stop rubs on a horse that lives in a blanket all winter. The tailguard protects the tail in the trailer. The Equijump stable sheet handles mild nights in the barn, and the Kentucky Show Rug is the one you pull out at the horse show.

Ordering blankets from Ireland

Blankets ship from Ireland by DHL Express and typically reach US addresses in 3 to 5 business days, tracked the whole way. US import duty is collected at checkout under DDP; nothing is charged at your door. A blanket is bulky, so expect the upper shipping brackets. Returns are accepted for 30 days from delivery in original condition. If a blanket arrives damaged or we send the wrong one, report it within 48 hours to info@equijumpltd.com and we cover the return shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What horse rug brands do you stock?

Kentucky Horsewear anchors the range with waterproof rain coats, mid-weight horse duvets, heavy fleece rugs, lightweight under rugs, walker rugs and the Magnetic Recuptex therapeutic line. We also stock Dyon (wool rug, honeycomb cooler) and the Equijump Ltd own-brand stable sheet.

How do I size a horse rug?

Measure from the centre of the horse's chest, around the shoulder, along the side of the body, to the point of buttock. That measurement (in feet for the UK system, in centimetres for European) is your rug size. Most brands' charts map between the two. If your horse falls between sizes, going up usually fits better than going down.

What weight of horse rug do I need?

For Irish weather, a 300g mid-weight rug covers most stable use through autumn and winter. Lighter under rugs (around 100g) layer up for colder weather. A heavy fleece rug or cooler works as a layer or a light stable rug. The Rain Coat 100% Waterproof is the turnout option for wet weather. Tell us your horse's clip, where they're kept, and the weather you're rugging for.

What is the difference between turnout, stable and cooler rugs?

A turnout rug is waterproof and built for paddock use in wet weather. A stable rug (like the Kentucky Duvet) is breathable and keeps the horse warm in the box; not designed for rain. A cooler is a quick-dry layer used after work or after a wash to wick sweat away while the horse cools down. A walker rug is a specific cooler for use on a walker rather than a stable.

Are horse rugs waterproof and breathable?

The Kentucky Rain Coat is fully waterproof for paddock turnout. Stable rugs and coolers are breathable but not waterproof - they're for indoor use. The waterproof finish on a turnout rug benefits from periodic reproofing with a technical spray to keep its water-repellent performance.

How should I clean and store horse rugs?

Most rugs are machine-washable on a cool cycle (or via a dedicated rug-washer for heavy-soiled turnouts) - close fastenings, mild detergent, no softener, line dry. Reproof waterproof rugs after washing. Store clean and dry in a sealed bag or container to keep moths off; the Magnetic Recuptex range needs specific storage care - check the label.
