The straight Mullen profile spreads pressure evenly for a quiet, steady connection. Ported designs create tongue relief and can help horses that press, evade, or show tongue sensitivity. Choose the mildest shape that maintains relaxed, elastic contact.
Cheeks to match your rein feel
Loose ring increases mobility and a livelier feel; Eggbutt or D-ring add stability at the corners of the lips; Full cheek supports clearer lateral guidance. Pick the cheek that suits your steering and your horse’s way of going.
Fit & sizing
Measure width between the inside edges of the rings/cheeks with slight clearance at the lips. Match thickness and flexibility to palate height and tongue volume—often a moderate profile that sits quietly works best. Position so teeth can’t mark the synthetic surface.
Care & maintenance
Rinse after every ride and deep-clean joints periodically. Wipe the synthetic gently (avoid abrasives/solvents) and keep away from high heat. Check for bite marks and replace if the surface is compromised.
