Frequently Asked Questions

What riding whips do you stock?

Fleck is the anchor whip brand we stock - hand-finished German whips covering carbon dressage and jump whips, woven nylon variants, lunge whips and the jockey racebat. We also stock Equijump Ltd own-brand riding whips at the value end of the range.

What is the difference between a dressage and a jumping whip?

A dressage whip is longer (typically 100cm-120cm) and thinner, designed to reach behind the rider's leg without taking the hand off the rein. A jumping whip is shorter (typically 65cm-75cm) with a wider grip and a small flapper at the end - designed for short, deliberate cues over fences. Lunge whips are longer still and flexible, used from the ground.

How long should a riding whip be?

For dressage, 100cm-120cm is the typical adult length, with up to 125cm for taller riders. For show jumping, 65cm-75cm is standard. Always check the rule book for your specific competition - some classes have explicit length limits and exceeding them can lead to disqualification.

Are riding whips allowed in competition?

Whip use is allowed in most disciplines but increasingly regulated. Show jumping has clear rules on length, frequency of use and where on the horse the whip can land. Dressage has explicit length limits and bans whips entirely in some senior classes. Always check current rules before competing.

Which whip brands do you carry?

Fleck (the German specialist) for the core range, with Equijump Ltd own-brand whips as a value option. For specialist driving or hunting whips not in our online range, contact us and we can usually source from Fleck or other suppliers.

How should I store and care for a riding whip?

Hang or stand whips upright - never store flat or folded, as the shaft holds a permanent bend. Wipe down after use to clear sweat from the grip. Carbon and fibreglass shafts need no further care; leather grips can be wiped with a damp cloth occasionally. Replace whips that have developed a noticeable bend or where the grip is wearing through.
