Feed Oils & Materials *

Feed oils are vegetable, fish or seed oils added to the daily feed to provide condensed energy, support coat condition, or supplement omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Common feed oils include linseed, soya, cod liver and the TRM Curragh Carron Oil blend. They're typically fed at 50-100ml per day for adult horses.

Use feed oils for horses needing extra calories without the bulk of additional concentrate feed (older horses, hard workers, horses with reduced appetite), for coat-condition support, or to supplement essential fatty acids missing from a standard hay-and-feed diet.

Start with a small amount (15-30ml per day) and increase gradually over 2-4 weeks to full dose (typically 50-100ml). Sudden introduction of large oil amounts can cause loose droppings. Mix into the daily feed and stir well.
