Second Hand Saddles For Irish Equestrians

At EquiJump, we understand the unique demands of Irish riders — from young horses being produced on the west coast to experienced combinations heading for national competition. Our collection of second hand saddles offers a smart and sustainable way to access premium equipment without the new-saddle price tag.

Professionally vetted and fully serviced, each saddle in our collection is selected for its ability to deliver comfort, fit, and performance across a wide range of horses and disciplines.

How are our used saddles restored and quality checked?

Every pre-owned saddle in our range undergoes a full inspection by experienced saddlers. We assess leather integrity, tree soundness, stitching, girthing systems, and panels — ensuring that each piece is ready to ride safely. Leading models like the CWD Classic Saddle and the Butet 17.5” Saddle are carefully cleaned, nourished, and polished before reaching our tack room.

Each saddle also receives a condition grading and is photographed from multiple angles, so Irish customers can buy with confidence — whether you're in Cork or Kildare.

What fit options are available, and how can I choose the right one?

Our second hand saddles come in a variety of seat sizes, tree widths, and panel styles to suit different horse conformations — from high withers to broader backs. We offer personalised fitting advice to help you select the right shape for your horse and riding goals. For added assurance, many models are eligible for our trial programme, allowing you to test ride before you commit.

Need to complete your setup? Pair your saddle with a correctly fitted girth or martingale for full tack stability and balance.

How do I maintain and care for a second hand saddle long term?

Just like a new saddle, a used one thrives with regular care. After each ride, wipe it down to remove sweat and arena dust. Condition the leather weekly to keep it supple, and always store it in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space — especially during Ireland’s wetter seasons. Check stitching, billets, and panels regularly for wear, especially if your horse changes shape over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What used saddles do you stock?

We hold a rotating selection of pre-owned CWD and Butet saddles, with the occasional Devoucoux, Equipe or Stubben coming through on trade-in. Stock turns over constantly, so the collection looks different from one week to the next - check the used saddles page for what's available now, or get in touch if you're after a specific seat size, flap configuration or model year.

What checks does each used saddle go through before listing?

Every saddle is inspected for tree integrity, stitching condition and leather condition before it goes on the site. Saddles needing rework are reflocked or repaired before listing, and details like seat size, flap size, year of manufacture and leather type are confirmed and listed on the product page.

Do used saddles come with anything?

Yes. Every used saddle ships with a new saddle cover and a basic leather care kit. The saddle is fully checked and serviced before it leaves us, so it's ready to ride.

Can I try a used saddle before I commit?

Yes. Used saddles ship on a 10-day trial with secure payment, so you can ride in the saddle and confirm fit before the sale completes. Next day delivery is the default once the order is placed. If you'd prefer to try saddles in person, you can book an appointment for a stable visit and test ride - free of charge with no obligation, and you can try as many as you like in one visit.

How do I know a used saddle will fit my horse?

Send us your rider measurements (height, inside leg, weight) and side and back photos of your horse, and we'll shortlist what's currently in stock that matches. The 10-day trial covers the rest - if the saddle doesn't suit your horse once you've ridden in it, return it.

Why buy a used saddle from Equijump?

Equijump Ltd. has been the official Irish distributor for CWD since 2011 and Butet for nearly as long, so the used CWD and Butet saddles we list have come back through people who bought from us originally - we know the saddle's history. The combination of full inspection, trial period and saddle-fit support means a used French saddle from us is a more affordable entry into either brand without the unknowns of a private sale.
