Martingale & Breastplate For Horse Cwd Sellier

CWD designs leatherwork that balances control and freedom of movement—clean, close-contact shapes with supple padding and tidy hardware to stabilise the saddle and keep your rein aids clear.
Breastplates help keep the saddle from shifting on keen jumpers and across related distances, while martingales refine the line of the rein for a quieter contact when horses raise the head or get strong.
Our CWD selection typically includes running and standing martingales plus three-point, bridge and five-point breastplates with optional sheepskin or elastic inserts. Choose the mildest design that maintains consistent responses.
Vegetable-tanned leathers, smooth edging and corrosion-resistant fittings deliver everyday durability. Thoughtful touches—centre clips, girth loops, elastic at the shoulders and neatly positioned D-rings—make adjustments fast on busy show days.
A breastplate should steady the saddle without pulling: you should slide a flat hand under the wither/neck strap and see straight, untwisted straps to the girth. For a running martingale, when you lift the reins the rings should reach to the withers; always use rein stops.
Keep shoulder points clear: elastic inserts or a correctly sized yoke allow the forehand to open over fences. Straps should lie flat without pinching at the elbow or across the windpipe.
Wipe sweat after riding, clean with mild saddle soap and condition sparingly. Check stitching, keepers and elastic routinely, and store away from heat and direct sunlight.
Explore CWD running/standing martingales and supportive breastplates to finish a polished, ring-ready set-up that complements your bridle and girth.
Running or standing—what should I choose?
A running martingale influences the rein line only when needed and is the common choice for jumpers; a standing gives firmer, constant limitation and suits specific horses and disciplines. Pick the mildest option that keeps the contact stable.
Three-point vs five-point breastplate?
Three-point offers light, simple stabilisation from wither to girth. Five-point spreads pressure across chest/shoulder with additional straps and can feel more secure on very forward horses. Both must leave shoulders free.
How tight should the breastplate be?
It should stabilise without pulling the saddle forward. You should fit a flat hand under the wither strap; girth straps lie straight; no pressure across the windpipe. Recheck after you tighten the girth.
Are these competition-legal?
Generally yes in jumping, but specifications (e.g., ring size, young horse classes) vary. Always check your federation’s current rules before competing.
