Frequently Asked Questions

What horse grooming tools do you stock?

We carry a substantial grooming range across brushes (Kentucky body, dandy, hoof, mane, sheepskin grooming glove and overall brushes; One Equestrian dandy brushes in different stiffnesses), hoof tools (Kentucky Hoof Pick, Hoof Brush, Hoof Pencil; Lami-Cell Folding Thinning Knife), clippers and blades (Heiniger professional clipper, blades, oil and replacement battery), trimming and finishing tools (Sprenger Fetlock Shears, Sprenger Thinning Scissors, mane combs from Lami-Cell and QHP), plaiting kit (Sprenger and Lami-Cell silicon and standard bands, Agrihealth wax), and care products (Pack Horse Mane & Tail Silk Spray, TRM Hoof Oil, Vetrolin White 'N Brite, TRM No More Brushes). The Devoucoux Conditioning Mitt also sits in this collection.

What should be in a basic horse grooming kit?

A practical daily kit covers: a body brush (Kentucky middle hard or middle soft depending on your horse's coat), a dandy brush for caked mud, a hoof pick (every yard needs at least one), a mane and tail brush or comb, a sponge, and a finishing cloth. Add hoof oil and a coat spray as the maintenance kit. Build up specialist tools (fetlock shears, thinning scissors, plaiting bands) as you need them.

How often should I groom my horse?

Daily light grooming is the standard - clear mud and sweat from the body, pick out the hooves morning and evening, brush the mane and tail. Deep grooming (full body brush-out, washing where appropriate, hoof oil, finishing) is typically weekly or before competitions. Ungroomed horses develop skin issues and rugs sit badly.

What is the best brush for a sensitive horse?

A medium-soft body brush (Kentucky Middle Brush Medium or Body Brush Middle Soft) is the everyday default for sensitive horses. The sheepskin grooming glove is the gentlest tool - good for finishing and for horses that won't tolerate firm brushing on the face or flanks. Avoid hard dandy brushes and metal curry combs on sensitive skin.

Which grooming brands do you carry?

Kentucky Horsewear (the largest range), One Equestrian, Lami-Cell, Sprenger (specialist trimming), Heiniger (clippers), TRM (care products), Pack Horse, QHP and others. Different brands lead in different grooming categories.

Do you stock plaiting and turnout products?

Yes - plaiting bands in silicon, rubber and broad mane patterns from Sprenger, Lami-Cell, QHP and Agrihealth, plus plaiting wax. For show finishing, we stock white-coat sprays (Vetrolin White 'N Brite), hoof oils, and the Pack Horse Mane & Tail Silk Spray.
