Poponcini mouthpieces are handmade for sensitive horses, pairing a flexible, mouth-friendly outer with a reinforced core to deliver soft, even contact and quick acceptance.
Our selection focuses on proven favourites: Simple Snaffle, Eggbutt Snaffle, D Ring, plus the leverage options Harmony Pelham and Harmony Baby Pelham. This covers everyday schooling through to moments when you need a touch more control.
Harmony mouthpieces combine a steel cable core with a shaped polymer layer and a smooth, non-toxic silicone outer for the horse’s comfort. They’re available in different firmness levels by model, so you can match stability and softness to your horse.
Choose Eggbutt or D Ring when you want steadier contact at the corners of the lips; pick a Pelham or Baby Pelham when measured curb action will help balance a forward horse—always using the mildest setup that achieves consistent responses.
Measure the width between the inside edges of the rings/cheeks and allow slight clearance at the lips. Fit closely so the bit sits quietly; oversizing can increase bending and the risk of tooth marks on softer mouthpieces.
Rinse after riding, clean gently with mild soap and avoid heat or abrasives. Inspect the surface regularly; softer mouthpieces can be marked by teeth and should be replaced when worn to maintain comfort and safety.
What is special about Poponcini Harmony mouthpieces?
They use a flexible design with a reinforced core and a smooth, non-toxic outer that many sensitive horses accept quickly while maintaining clear, even contact.
Which should I choose—Eggbutt, D Ring or Pelham?
Eggbutt and D Ring cheeks add stability at the lips for steadier contact; Harmony Pelham or Baby Pelham add measured curb action for extra balance when needed. Start with the mildest option that keeps the response reliable.
How should Poponcini bits fit?
Size closely—just a small clearance at the lips—so the mouthpiece sits quiet and centred. An over-wide fit can flex more and increase the chance of bite marks.
How do I look after a Harmony mouthpiece?
Rinse after use, wash with mild soap and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh cleaners or heat. Check for wear or tooth marks and replace if the surface is damaged.
