Flexi Soft offers the warmest, most forgiving feel and bends readily; Medium adds stability with slight flexibility; Hard is the firmest for clearer definition while remaining smooth to the tongue. Selected models include a steel core for safety and durability.
Shapes for comfort: Mullen & Port
The straight Mullen profile spreads pressure evenly for a quiet, steady contact. Ported versions create tongue relief and can help horses that press, evade or show tongue sensitivity. Choose the mildest shape that maintains relaxed, elastic connection.
Cheeks to suit your rein feel
Loose ring encourages mobility and a livelier feel; Eggbutt or D-ring add stability at the corners of the lips; Full cheek supports clearer lateral guidance. Pick the cheek that complements your steering and your horse’s way of going.
Fit & sizing
Measure width between the inside edges of the rings/cheeks and allow a small clearance at the lips. Match thickness and flexibility to palate height and tongue volume—often a moderate profile that sits quietly is best. Check placement so teeth cannot mark the synthetic surface.
Care & longevity
Rinse after each ride and periodically deep-clean around joints. Wipe the synthetic gently (no abrasives or solvents) and avoid high heat. Inspect for bite marks and replace if the surface is damaged; this preserves comfort and clarity of the aids.
