Leather Horse Boots

A leather horse boot is a protective boot for the horse's legs (tendon, fetlock or turnout) made from leather rather than synthetic materials. Most leather boots come in pony, cob, full and oversize. Measure cannon bone circumference and check against the brand's chart. The leather should sit close against the leg without pinching, with two fingers' clearance under the strap.

Leather boots are the traditional, smart choice - durable, classic-looking, often preferred for showing. Synthetic boots use technical materials (neoprene, mesh, vegan sheepskin) and are usually quicker to clean and lighter to wear. Brush off mud after use. Wipe the leather with a damp cloth and condition occasionally with a quality leather balm. Avoid heavy oiling, which softens the leather too much. Store boots clean and dry; calfskin linings should be air-dried between uses, never heat-dried.
