For a 5-tonne or 7.5-tonne lorry you need a Category C1 licence, and for anything above 7.5 tonnes a full Category C licence is required.

A 3.5-tonne Theault comfortably carries up to two horses in the 16.2hh-17.2hh range with room for tack and feed. For three or more horses, larger animals, or a vehicle with overnight living quarters, look at the 5-tonne or 7.5-tonne range. The deciding factor is usually total loaded weight, not just floor space - the horses, tack, water, fuel and any passengers all count against the 3,500kg limit on a category B licence.
