Frequently Asked Questions

When should I give my horse electrolytes?

After hard work in hot or humid weather, after long-distance travel, when the horse is sweating heavily, or when fluid intake is reduced (illness, fussy drinking on the road). Electrolytes replace the salts lost through sweat - particularly sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride - and support continued drinking and recovery. Don't give electrolytes routinely without need; the body excretes excess.

What is the difference between paste and powder electrolytes?

Paste (TRM Superlyte Paste) gives a precise oral dose at a specific time - common use is event-day or post-work. Powder or granule electrolytes (TRM Isopro and similar) feed in daily through the regular feed and suit horses in continuous heavy work. Both deliver the same minerals; choice depends on your routine.

Can I give horse electrolytes daily?

Yes - daily electrolyte feeding suits horses in continuous heavy work or hot conditions. Match the dose to the work load; over-dosing routinely wastes the supplement and (in extreme cases) can disrupt the horse's natural mineral balance. Always provide free access to clean water alongside.

Are electrolytes competition-legal?

Yes - electrolytes are routinely used in FEI competition. The TRM range we stock is formulated with competition use in mind. Always check the label and the FEI Clean Sport database for the specific product before competing.

Which electrolyte brands do you stock?

TRM (TRM Isopro powder, TRM Superlyte Paste) for our standing range. For Electrolyte Gold (also TRM, in 50g sachets) and Plusvital Electrolyte Gel, see the equine supplements parent collection.

Do you stock electrolytes for travel and hot weather?

Yes - the TRM Superlyte Paste is well suited to travel and event-day use. For continuous hot-weather support during work, the powder formats (TRM Isopro, TRM Electrolyte Gold sachets in the parent collection) feed into the daily feed.
